Landscape Manager

General Job Description

The Landscape Manager is responsible for the design and maintenance of all outdoor spaces and many of the indoor garden features at our facilities. The Manager will work with a variety of plants, trees, grasses, shrubs, and other vegetation to create beautiful and functional spaces that are not only practical, but that people can enjoy.


The Landscape Manager is responsible for managing landscape operations, coordinating the procurement, and scheduling of labor, equipment, and materials to ensure maximum use and completion of work within budget, safety guidelines and quality standards. In addition, the Landscape Manager will guide and mentor staff and assist them in carrying out their duties. The Manager serves as the primary interface between Never-Ending Grace staff and the landscape crew.


The Landscape Manager will also be responsible for overseeing the construction of new features or structures on the grounds. This includes building retaining walls, installing irrigation systems, or creating new beds for planting.  


Education
The Landscape Manager must have a high school diploma. A two-year associate degree in landscape management or horticulture is desired. 10+ years professional experience in landscaping, design, installation, maintenance, and management is required. Knowledge of landscape plants, soils, irrigation, and fertilizers is also strongly desired. Proven management experience, with a strong focus on team development needed. A four-year college degree in agriculture or horticulture will be considered a bonus.


All necessary state certifications and licenses will need to be obtained after being employed.


Strong references are desirable and will be verified and considered.


Responsibilities and Duties

The Landscape Manager must agree with Never-Ending Grace Corporation’s Purpose, Mission, and Statement of Faith, and adhere to the goals and philosophies of the corporation.


The Landscape Manager functions as an integral member of the Never-Ending Grace Team.


The Landscape Manager will:

  • Address any issues with equipment or vehicles in a timely manner.

  • Be familiar with all Never-Ending Grace’s property and the needs of the landscape.

  • Coordinate all work projects using both staff and volunteers.  

  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, government agencies, and other consultants as needed.

  • Design and implement new landscape projects as requested.

  • Develop and adhere to budgets for all landscaping projects.

  • Ensure that the grounds are safe by identifying any potential hazards and taking appropriate measures to eliminate them.

  • Establish and maintain plants, trees, shrubs, and other vegetation in accordance with any environmental regulations.

  • Estimate costs for labor and materials needed for projects, as well as estimate the time required to complete projects.

  • Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards have been met.

  • Maintain an inventory of supplies, equipment, and machinery needed for work activities, ordering supplies and maintenance as needed.

  • Maintain the health and appearance of all landscaped areas on the properties, including but not limited to mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, fertilizing, watering, and any herbicide/pesticide applications.

  • Manage a team of landscaping staff, assigning tasks and responsibilities as needed.

  • Managing the development of plans for new landscape projects throughout our facilities.

  • Oversee irrigation system maintenance and repairs.

  • Oversee the planting of annuals, perennials, trees, and shrubs as needed.

  • Perform tasks related to the design and construction of each of Never-Ending Grace’s facilities.

  • Plan, design, and implement landscaping projects, such as designing gardens, installing irrigation systems, and creating lawn mowing, grounds maintenance, and snow removal schedules.

  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports as requested by the Board of Directors and the management team.

  • Respond to staff inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.

  • Train new employees in proper safety procedures and corporation policies and procedures.

  • Be able to research and develop plans for projects, including estimating costs, ordering materials, and completing needed work.

  • Have the skill to identify and solve problems, including identifying plant and animal health issues, repairing equipment, and resolving customer complaints.

  • Have effective leadership skills to motivate the landscape team, delegate tasks and encourage collaboration.

  • Have strong problem-solving skills to work through challenges and find solutions when dealing with other professionals to develop a plan for a project.

  • Have strong time-management skills to prioritize work and ensure deadlines are met.

  • Have a working knowledge of landscape design software.

Overview

The Landscape Manager will be responsible for overseeing Never-Ending Grace Corporations landscape operations, it’s labor team, equipment, and the materials necessary to design, build, and maintain quality and appealing landscaping both indoors and outdoors at all facilities.


The Landscape Manager will work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, and may be exposed to hazardous materials, such as pesticides. The Manager will also work around heavy equipment, such as tractors, mowers, and other power-driven machinery. The Landscape Manager will work full-time, and the workweek may include some evenings and weekends. Overtime during the peak season, which generally runs from April through October, may be necessary. The Manager will be on call 24 hours a day to respond to emergencies, such as severe weather conditions or equipment breakdowns.

Compensation
The Landscape Manager’s salary, based on industry standards as well as previous experience, will have a starting range between $60,000 and $80,000 per year.  The Landscape Manager will also receive the Never-Ending Grace Corporation benefits package (see attached).
